Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Mahjong at TheMahjong.com

Happy New Year to you, our dear friends! Yes, yes, you heard that right—this time, it’s the Chinese Lunar New Year. We are excited to celebrate this event with you since China is the birthplace of the mahjong, its heart, and who better than us, the true lovers of this wonderful game, to enjoy this event?
The Chinese New Year is one of the oldest holidays, dating back more than 3,500 years. While China officially adopted the Gregorian calendar, which aligns with the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, the Chinese New Year is still celebrated according to the lunar calendar.
But how does the lunar calendar work? It’s easy and beautiful — each month begins when the Moon, Earth, and Sun align, with the mid-point of the month marked by a full moon. And the year begins with the second new moon, marking the end of winter and the renewal of life. This is why the Chinese New Year is called the Spring Festival (春节).
As a result, the traditional New Year on Jan 1st isn’t widely celebrated in China; all the attention is focused on the Spring Festival, the country’s most important and longest holiday, lasting a full 15 days. It’s a time for families to reunite, with loved ones often traveling from distant cities or even other countries to celebrate together.

To help you enjoy all 15 days of this celebration, we’ve prepared a special surprise for you (as always)! And we are happy to announce the addition of new themed tilesets, backgrounds, music, and an exciting intro to our website. If you’ve recently joined us and don’t know where to find the surprises, just click on the money pouch right here and watch as the Lunar New Year comes to you.
We hope you fill these days with smiles and have a great time celebrating this holiday with your loved ones and friends! Have a fantastic time and come celebrate the Lunar New Year with us at themahjong.com!
